THANKSGIVING TRADITIONS COME in all shapes and sizes. From the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade to breaking the wishbone to getting together with those wacky yet lovable relatives, traditions vary from family to family, and that includes the families of our practice’s team members!

Unusual Thanksgiving Traditions & Memories

We recently discussed as a team some of our favorite traditions and memories. While we laughed at how so many were similar, debated about our picks for pies, we also had a few unique traditions. Almost all of us could remember a Thanksgiving being snowed in which is not surprising given we are all midwesterners. It seems some of the best memories come from those unexpected experiences.

One of the most unique was Alix’s family tradition. She shared that because she and her husband split their time between several homes during Thanksgiving (that doesn’t sound so bad–all that yummy food!) that her families all meet at the end of the day at a nearby Casino getting their game on for a little family friendly competition.

Football and food were at the top of the list for most of us and there is something to be said for tradition and the comfortability of being at home. Angela and I shared that for the first time EVER our entire family will be spending the holiday away in Colorado skiing. Angela’s mom is already worried about whether the house is equipped with everything necessary to host the proper Thanksgiving dinner. We’ve assured her that being together and creating memories is enough for us and we look forward to lots of laughter and hope for some fresh powder too!

Angela has only spent ONE Thanksgiving away from her family, something she says she will never do again. To make the best of being half way across the country she hosted her friends spending Thanksgiving solo. She spent her day making all the traditional dishes including the turkey! It was a learning experience, and a lot of preparation. She gained a new appreciation for all those who do this year after year with a smile on their face and wishes she would have made a quick call to get advice from her own mom and grandma on that turkey. While it turned out beautifully the giblets left inside, well not so much…oops!
